Three Kings: Jay-Z talks Basquiat, Charles the First (Untitled)

Kanye is indeed a human meme generator, but Jay-Z continues his reign as a walking branding success with this video. The hat, the glasses, the Basquiat reference… The guy is too slick. Of course, that said, I do love the art reference. I’ve got money that Jay-Z has a fine art collection in the works.

Obama Squashes WWIII, Finally Earns Nobel

Posted: October 8th, 2010 | Author: fred | Filed under: Act Like You Know | No Comments »

I’ve been extremely critical of the Prez, but today, on the anniversary of getting the Nobel Peace Prize, I gotta own up and admit he deserved that shit. The Nobel committee showed incredible foresight in awarding him that snazzy cup. Sure, it may not have caused him to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but it may well have inspired him to end a far more important war. Credit where credit’s due.

When he was running for Prez, Barry O mentioned liking to listen to Jay Z (who also helped up out a bit with the campaigning). Anyone within frequent earshot of me knows I think Jay may be a more “transformational” figure than Big Baby Obama but that’s here not there at the moment. Obviously, this was a dangerous statement to be making — some heads might see this musical endorsement like Muslims saw Terry Jones and his lil bonfire — but for once Obama’s bi-partisanship/sucking up/not taking a stand has actually been useful.

You see, he told Rolling Stone recently: “Thanks to Reggie [Love, the president's personal aide], my rap palate has greatly improved. Jay-Z used to be sort of what predominated, but now I’ve got a little Nas and a little Lil Wayne…” Boom! CRISIS AVERTED. Prodigy and Cam’ron can put down the mics and go back to… whatever it is that they do these days.

Wayne’s comment on being on the president’s iPod, “Unfuckingbelievable. He added, “Lil Wayne’s the president,” an attitude unlikely to earn him a presidential pardon, or even get him his own MP3 player in jail. Jay and Nas announced they are considering doing a new version of their song “Black Republicans” titled “Black Republican,” since at this point there’s really only Michael Steele left.

Obama has showed hip hop savvy at other points in his time in the White House. Most notably, he appointed Jim Jones as his National Security Advisor
